From town: Go 5 mi N on 3 Capes Scenic Hwy.
It's a easy and great place to take the kids fishing and crabbing. There is also a great camp ground and a awesome trial that loops the whole island
Only one access point by bridge. Trail wanders around "island" but doesn't lead anywhere much like high school or a bachelor's degree in communication. Water was cold and salty. There were no restaurants on the island and hardly any Starbucks. Would still recommend to people who are okay leaving wifi for a short amount of time. The trail had tree roots in some places.
Also there was a lot of sand.
Whalen Island County Park and Campground has some very peaceful trails around South Sandlake Estuary. There's a fairly easy loop hike with some quiet beach access and very little elevation change. We started from the circle parking/restroom area, heading North, and returned by the edge of the campground.
