About Campground

Sawmill Flat Campground is located along the Naches River in the Northern Cascade Range of Washington. The campground provides and ideal setting for both individual and family camping excursions. Recreation Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest offers a multitude of recreational activities for its visitors. In addition to being a prime location for hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and mountain biking in summer and early fall, the area provides excellent skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Hikers and backpackers are especially fortunate to have access to a variety of spectacular trails near the campground and in the surrounding areas. Designated Wilderness provides thousands of pristine acres of incredible landscapes to enjoy in solitude or with a small group. Frost Mountain Lookout Trail is a favorite for many in the area, and river enthusiasts may enjoy a whitewater paddle on the nearby American River. Facilities Sawmill Flats Campground offers standard, tent only, and walk up sites. Vault toilets and drinking water are available, however there are no electrical hook-ups. Natural Features Because of its wide geographic range, the Okanogan-Wenatchee is a stunning and unique National Forest. High, glaciated alpine peaks tower along the Cascade Crest. Lush valleys of old growth forest define its western boundary. And, at its eastern edge, rugged shrub-steppe country comprises a more arid region. Elevations range from below 1,000 ft. to over 9,000 ft. The Naches River, adjacent to Sawmill Flat Campground, is a tributary of the Yakima River in central Washington. In its upper reaches the river flows through rugged terrain and areas of pristine wilderness. Before joining the Yakima River it makes its way through valleys and is a significant irrigation source for areas northwest of Yakima. Used by Native Americans and settlers throughout history, the river has served as an natural corridor between the east and west sides of the Cascades through the Naches Pass. Nearby Attractions Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail is one of the most popular places in the District. Visitors enjoy the accessible trail along the river or hiking to Boulder Cave. Interpretive signs along the trail explain the geology, plants, animals and fire history of the area. In the fall thousands of people come to experience white water rafting on both the Tieton and American Rivers. Hikers may want to traverse at least a portion of the spectacular Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), one of the world's premier National Scenic Trails. This trail showcases some of North America's most fantastic scenery, winding its way its way from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. ADA Access: N

The campsites and toilets were very clean, there's a water pump for putting out campfires. Beautiful River, a little close to the road but honestly a wonderful place to camp and will do again.

It was gorgeous and keeps cool in the hot weather even though it is very close to Naches and Yakima. Helpful camp host. Clean washrooms. I'll book it again. Pleasant mornings with bird and river sounds. Water pump and trash options are there.

- I booked spot 23, and it was very close to 20. It was small and not private, so we requested switching, and the camp host was really friendly and smart; they helped us out. Other campgrounds were really big and nice. You may hear a road sound from some of the roadside campsites, but at the same time, you will hear the River sound.

- The River has cold water, and the flow is pretty fast, so perfect for rafting, fishing but not good for tubing or swimming activities.

- Someone saw a bear during our stay, it seems elks come, but the bear would be an unusual visitor. It would be important to keep the food safely stored.

- There is a burn ban going on. So right now, you can't do any campfires.

Second camping trip for 2021! My family and stayed at Sawmill Flat Campground and we loved it😍. The camp host Scooter and Marilyn were so nice and really just kept to themselves 🧡. The kids had a blast exploring the area. Water was way to fast for them to play in, but there is definitely a lot of exploring you can do. We stayed in campsite 10 and we loved the amount of space we had especially for our dog and the kids to play. Definitely recommend 👌 Also on recreation.gov it said only one vehicle per site but at the campground it says two vehicles can stay just FYI see picture below.

Tucked along the Naches River, the Sawmill Flat Campground has some of the best camping sites in the state. A number of them front the river and offer low bank access so you can pull up a chair and eat your breakfast or dangle your feet in the river. They’re well spaced and have ample room for a large tent. Improbably, we found not a single bug there on a mid-August visit.

A truly beautiful campground , very well maintained grounds with a fair amount of space between each camp. It is right along the side of the road and can be a little noisy when it's busy . But all in all the river was beautiful , the grounds were some of the best maintained I have ever seen . I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick get away , that's pretty , safe and open enough to bring the family.
