A nice little easy hike up to the monument. And a beautiful view of four states I believe. MD, WV, VA and PA.

Beautiful place to be on a hot summer evening. There's always a breeze blowing & a few degrees cooler at the monument. You'll have to walk up a trail that's on a slight incline- but we'll worth the hike when you see the view.

This place is a gem!! Very well maintained, neat and clean with ample picnic spots available. Take a short hike to reach the Monument and enjoy the stunning views of the valley below.

MD resident pay 2$ entry fee while outsiders pay 4$ per vehicle.

Washington Monument State Park is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Maryland. As a history enthusiast, visiting this park was a memorable experience. The iconic Washington Monument, which predates the more famous one in D.C., stands proudly atop South Mountain, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

The park's well-maintained hiking trails provide excellent opportunities for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. I highly recommend taking the short but scenic hike to the monument's summit. The effort is rewarded with stunning vistas that are especially captivating during the fall when the foliage is ablaze with color.

Beyond its natural beauty, the park's historical significance is profound. The monument itself, built in the early 19th century, serves as a reminder of our nation's past. The visitor center offers informative exhibits about its construction and the role it played in local history.

What sets this park apart is its peaceful ambiance. It's an ideal place for a picnic, contemplation, or simply escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you're a history buff or someone looking for a serene outdoor experience, Washington Monument State Park is a must-visit destination. It's a testament to the enduring legacy of George Washington and a tranquil retreat for all who visit.

Amazing place to visit. You can park in the parking lot to the Washington Monument State Park and it’s a much shorter trail. We walked from Annapolis Rock and Black Rock trail head parking lot, a 3.6 mile hike. Its pretty easy. A wonderful walk in the woods. Very hard to imagine building that by hand in the late 1820s.
