About Campground

Overview

Edgewater Campground is perched along the banks of the Pend Oreille River in the Colville National Forest. The quiet, family-friendly campground attracts visitors who come for boating, hiking and fishing. The picturesque area, surrounded by cedar, hemlock and Douglas fir, boasts views of the Selkirk Mountains.

Recreation

Trout and bass fishing is great for avid anglers. A boat ramp is located on-site.

Hikers enjoy exploring nearby Terry Trail and Box Canyon. Wildlife watching for moose, white-tailed deer and the endangered woodland caribou is another popular activity.

Facilities

Parking spurs are gravel and grass and can accommodate any size RV. A campground host is on-site, and firewood is available for sale. Amenities inc lude vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection.

Natural Features

The campground sits on a bluff on the east bank of the river at an elevation of 2,000 feet. Many campsites offer a scenic view of the river. The forest floor is covered with thimbleberry, wild rose and other shrubs.

The 1.1 million acre Colville National Forest lies in the northeast corner of Washington. The forest's great salmon runs first attracted native Americans to the area, then miners, homesteaders and fur trappers followed. The variety of resources and natural beauty in the region continues to attract visitors.

Three mountain ranges, the Okanogan, Kettle River and Selkirk, run through the Colville Forest.

Nearby Attractions

Sweet Creek Falls is located just north of the city of Ione.

Directions

The campground is located approximately 90 miles north of Spokane, WA. After crossing the Ione Bridge eastbound over the Pend Oreille River, look for the Edgewater Campground sign and immediately turn left. The campground is located 2 miles north of the bridge on Box Canyon Road.

Gorgeous. Let me say this again gorgeous. The sites were very large and wooded. The views were splendid. I was left silent at the views of the water and of surrounding views. Was very peaceful. I felt like I could stay here until someone forced me to move. Had great facilities and boat ramp. Was able to kayak up to the campground and pull aground eat my lunch and go back out again with ease. Well kept secret. Be careful as your driving in. Right before the turn off there is a very active small farm with children and dogs.

Very beautiful campground. Some large spots for big rigs. Very large road to get in and out of spots. Clean bathrooms. Quiet. Only wish it had a better beach area or a designated swim area.

Beautiful campground with plenty of great sites to choose from. The only negative is that only 2 of the sites have water access, 20 & 19. Despite this small detail, had a great time and would love to visit Edgewater Campground again.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! My daughter and I took our first solo camping trip without Dad. I felt so comfortable here. Its very peaceful and safe. The sites are really nice and spacious. LOts of flat spots for tents. Love the bear safe food storage. The river is peaceful and great for kids as there is a lovely little beach that is good for little ones to splash around in. There is a good 10 ft into the water thats nice and sandy so bare feet are ok. There are other areas that are more rocky also and then further in the river it gets deep and lots of plants. Fun to watch the jumping fish. Ione itself is super small but had what we needed. The Food court there is good and has excellent ice cream. Really love the red bridge there. I will definitely go again.

The campground was clean, and tidy. Pit toilets were really clean. The campsites, with the exception of 2 (5 and 7) are extremely small and tight if you have more than a tent. There were very little areas for shade during the heat of the day. The campground swimming area is basically a goose wading area and the only other way to access is via steep trails to the water. These access points have terribly thick weeds under the water and wouldn't be safe anyways. So we went to ione City Park, which isn't much better, but some. The stars were amazing, the nature sublime, but overall, not stellar.
