We love camping at South Skookum!

The only complaint I have is I called the phone number provided to ask about having a fire, chains saws, and about the actual sites. The person I talked said the sites were first come first serve and the site we normally camp in was reserved for 5 days but the campers didn't use it the first 2 nights showed up the 3rd night and then left the next day.

It was a terrible experience. The camp host harrassed us the whole time we were there. We were planning on staying a week but left after three days. I asked the host what his problems were and he said my kind didn't belong there. Referring to my skin color I think. I asked for a refund for the two days I paid for but wasn't going to stay and he refused got upset and started yelling I was scared for my safety. Couldn't leave fast enough. He followed us a half mile outside the campground. Racism is strong at skookum campground.

Place is really nice, bear containers in every campsite, nice camping bathrooms, water pump and brand new giant wooden tables. Camp hosts were really friendly, the lake is a decent temperature and the trail around it is a nice 1.5 mile hike. My only complaint is the price… $27 a night per campsite is pretty steep for a campsite. Considering all the amenities though it makes sense.

You can buy your own firewood for $10 per pack of 5-6 logs but I was able to forage for wood nearby the campsite and make do. If you bring a hatchet there are plenty of dead trees around to get some good logs.

My family and I had a great time, the campground was very clean and the spots were spacious with nice fire pits with a swing over grill. The camp hosts even stopped by to drop some coloring sheets as well as a scavenger hunt sheet that when completed they were given a prize. We camped at the beginning of the week and it wasn't very busy. The lake is beautiful and the two docks make for fun fishing and swimming.
