The Vista of Maine is a 650 acre ridge top property, with some of the most beautiful awe striking views in all of Maine. The view to the West goes across Auburn and Lewiston all of the way to the White Mountains in NH, and to the East we look down across Sabattus Lake and at the farms beyond. We have both vineyards, and orchards, a wedding barn venue, multiple event rooms, tasting room for wine and ciders, and a limited menu restaurant. All of these are within walking distance to our; 7 rental cabins, 3 houses, 3 lodges, glamping tent, and 15 campsites; 6 with power, water and septic, 5 with power and water, 4 tent only sites. We do have a nice bath house with 2 bathrooms, 2 shower rooms, washer & dryer, and a couple outdoor showers in the summer.
This farm was originally a very large sheep farm first owned by the Hills family founding it in the early 1800's. The Hills paid for the train tracks to be extended past Auburn to Greene near the farm to facilitate the movement of their sheep to market in NYC in the 1800's before trucks were available. They had one of the largest flocks in the Eastern US, and their cousins, the Sawyers, had one of the largest in the Western US. When the Hills realized they were in danger of loosing their farm during the Great Depression, they sold it to the Sawyers. The Sawyers, continued farming here until the 1990's, when they reduced operations back to Montana. The Sawyers built the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial Building in 1935, from which programs, free to the public, are still presented twice monthly on Fridays at 2pm and 7pm from May through October, **https://www.sawyer-foundation.com/events**. We bought the farm in 2013 after the last Maine survivor of the Sawyer family had past away. Our Ricker family has been growing apples on one of two "Ricker Hills" here in western Maine since the late 1700's. We were not really shopping for a new farm when this came up for sale, but were convinced to take a look at it by a family friend. Our father, Don Ricker, who is still working full time at 87 years old, saw this beautiful panoramic view, and said "I don't care how you do it, but find a way to buy this farm, God did not make many spots as nice as this, it will be worth the trouble of paying for it".
It is best to enter "Vista of Maine" into your GPS, most GPS apps that is all that you will need. If with your app it does not automatically come up use; Vista of Maine, 170 Coburn road, Greene Maine. That will put you within site of our sign, and the beginning of our driveway.
We just had our wedding at Vista this last weekend and it was incredible. Staying the weekend and having the farmhouses as options for our wedding party made our day so much fun! Christine and Lara went above and beyond and made us feel like family! The views are breathtaking, cider is delicious, such a welcoming environment and was the PERFECT venue for our wedding. The barn was perfect. Christine did an incredible job communicating with me throughout the day to make it organized and smooth. I wish we could do our wedding day all over and thank you Vista of Maine for creating the best memories for us! We will certainly be back and the Vista has a special place in our hearts!
I'm so glad we found this hidden gem while vacationing in Maine. This Vineyard and Cidery is absolutely beautiful. The lady that greeted us was the nicest and friendliest plus so helpful in suggesting the different Wines and Hard Ciders because they have an awesome selection of Hard Ciders too. I just feel bad I can't recall her name now. The Cranberry Wine is great and so is the Cranberry and Blueberry Hard Cider, tried all of the Hard Ciders and loved them all. They make the best Ciders anywhere. The View is breathtaking. Will definitely visit again when vacationing in Maine.
Super cool orchard and tasting room with amazing views! Definitely sit outside weather permitting, enjoy a flight or 3 and take in the panoramic views!
Beautiful views great ciders and delicious wine. Better than that, the hostess we shall call her was a delight honest funny, and lighthearted. Came in at end of business for a quick first-time time scope out and we weren't disappointed!!! Looking forward to our second trip!!!
These photos don't do it justice, it was .freezing cold that day and the winds were rugged. I took these from my car through the windshield!!
At the very least go, have a glass, scope it out and when you get there you will be like us, trying not to squeeze the car full 😉
I am a wedding photographer and I always love weddings at the Vista of Maine. The sunsets are just breathtaking. There are tons of photo spots. The weathered wood by the barn, the rows of apple trees. It's really so pretty there!
