Built in 2006, this campground is located on top of Flat Top Mountain. It is perfect for camping with horses; there is plenty of shade and every site has a metal pipe corral. White Cedar’s main attraction is its proximity to a 20 mile system of intersecting trails of varied lengths and levels. You can ride directly from your campsite to the Flat Top Trailhead.
From Dublin, VA, take State Route 100 west 8.5 miles to an intersection and State Rt. 42. Turn left onto Rt. 42 and go 10 miles to another intersection and State Rt. 606. Turn right onto Rt. 606 and go 1 mile to Forest Rt. 201 (just passed Trent Store). Continue on Rt. 201 (gravel) and go 2.5 miles, passing the small Walnut Flat campground (where horses are not permitted) to campground on left.
Love the Campground. My only issue was the potholes on dirt road leading to Campground. Slow going with horses in trailer.
Horse and Camper Accommodations with running water.
Nice wide campsites and corrals. Clean Johnny Houses equipped with hand sanitizer
Well set up location, each spot has a corral for horses and graded area with picnic table and campfire circle. Gravel drive long enough to park any size trailer.
The White Cedar Horse Camp is a really neat rugged recreation area in the Appalachians with thoughtful amenities for horses. Each campsite has water (not sure if it's potable) and a corral for your mount. There's not much else here though. You'll find a single hole-in-the-ground style toilet and fire rings, and a lot of trails. Come prepared to be self-sufficient.
