Piute offers incredible fishing opportunities whether from shore or on a boat. Game fish include rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout, and smallmouth bass. Piute is also a great lake for watersports, including waterskiing, jetskiing and wakeboarding. The park offers camping and picnicking on the beach, and access to the Paiute Trail System for OHV riding. No culinary water is available at Piute and camping areas are primitive.
From I-70 W take exit 23 to U.S. 89. Heading south on U.S. 89, turn left at the park sign (about 20 miles).
Beautiful little reservoir with a nice tree line to relax or camp by. We really enjoyed our overnights here going back and forth to Montana.
Only negative is the people who seem to use this area over the weekends are filthy trash and leave garbage everywhere. Every time we’ve come through we’ve had to clean up multiple bags of garbage from the fire pits and around the campsite.
I’d say it was great but we don’t want more people to come here. Stay away!
Impossible to camp in the camping area due to tire rust from off roading 4 x4's downed branches and wash out areas. No tables. We made the mistake of paying for two nights before looking at it. We did drive over to the day use picnic and boat launch areas and since it was empty and level and paved we stayed there...other than the stray car that came into use the pit toilet we never saw another soul. It was a peaceful place is about all I can say.....so two days of peace and quiet. Good phone service.
We just did a small hike by the boat ramp. We parked by the restroom and followed a atv trail that started on the left side of the restrooms. We followed it for about a mile and we stopped at an overlook right above the dam. We were able to see the dam and have a great view of the north side of the reservoir. Wonderful views. It is not a walking trail just an off-road trail but still cool. After coming down the boat ramp area we had plenty of open tables with shade to choose from. We went mid august and only saw two boats on the water. Nobody was on the shore.
