This developed campground has interpretive displays which help you appreciate the magic of the surrounding area. Nearby Activities: Sheep Canyon Geological Area, just west of the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, features stunning scenic panoramas, framed by colorfully-striated cliffs.
Drive 3 miles south of Manila, Utah on UT-44 and turn right on Forest Service Road 218, Sheep Creek Geological Loop Road. Head west for 6 miles to the Palisades Picnic Site.
15 spaces, some right on the creek, clean bathrooms, gorgeous geology, very quiet, bighorn sheep right on the road and picnic area.
Amazing little campground! The bathrooms were kept clean and stocked and the family that tends to the campground were super nice - their son even sat and visited with us for a bit one evening.
This was our first time at Flaming Gorge and I'm sure we'll be back! Carmel is on the entrance/exit of the Sheep Creek Scenic Byway and I'd suggest a nice bicycle ride a few miles in from the campground in the morning or evening for some fantastic scenery (the middle of the day was too hot for us to be on the bikes).
Very nice, quiet campground. Easy access off the main drag a mile away.
Fantastic! Amazing location with creek and rock cliff right behind. Quiet. Super friendly host who really works hard to keep bathrooms clean.
