Cozy and comfortable cabin with amazing views of the Ocmulgee River, Zellner Island, and the Juliette Dam. The cabins at Towaliga River Retreat are on the banks of the Ocmulgee River and just around the corner from the charming town of Juliette, Georgia, home to the famous Whistle Stop Cafe from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes." Our cabins provide the closest, most exclusive access to The Ocmulgee River as well as being home to some of the best hiking trails, gravel biking routes, kayaking and canoeing, and fresh water fishing Middle Georgia has to offer.
The entrance to Towaliga River Retreat is just South of the Juliette Dam. Follow the gravel road along the railroad track, pass the old mill, and arrive at our location. Cabin #1 will be the first cabin you see.
For one night expect to pay $308.75: the stay, cleaning fee, and damage pre-auth. We decided to stay last minute Saturday night. We had no idea this place was here. Cabins were cute and comfortable with basic necessities. The property is beautiful. However; The water is non potable I didn’t even want to shower in it it smelt of sulfur so bad. It was nearly impossible to fish from our cabins location which was most of the reason we wanted to stay. The damage pre-auth is $150 which in my opinion is steep for the property. There is also a $25 cleaning fee - and clean up rules you must follow upon checkout (similar to air b&b). Unsure if we will be back.
What a wonderful getaway for us! The cabins are awesome and the view is heavenly! Ed the grounds keeper made sure everything was perfect! We walked the nature trail and kayaked up river! Perfect getaway for us being local and needing to be able to run home and feed our critters. We will be back!
I recently took a trip down to this lovely area in George. Of course, I remember it from the movie Fried Green tomatoes. The cabin was clean and neat. I was able to get the cabinet at the far end that gave me the privacy that I craved. I enjoyed the small little porch with a ceiling fan and that was a nice addition.
This place is a great location for family getaways. I really enjoy the easy river access and the friendly welcome I received in town. I also had my bike and was able to bike around and enjoy the scenery.
I will definitely be back in this time with two young children. The local outfitters have numerous river trips planned and I can’t wait to enjoy one of the full moon floats. I highly recommend this relax or peaceful area.
Pros:
Great and prompt communication from owner. It's off the beaten path. It's quiet. It's right beside the river with rustling waters. It's far enough from town but also convenient enough to go to town in 10 to 15 minutes.
Cons:
When the wind blows or when it storms all kind of debris fall on the tin roof and your vehicle and you can't sleep. On our visit the TV wasn't working. The place is a little small and lacking a few amenities for the rate in my opinion.
I'm not going to leave a long drawn out review. It was a nice quiet getaway. But the TV didn't work during our visit. It'll be nice to wind down watching TV for a little bit before we went to bed. As mentioned earlier, bathroom and lodging area is very small. Fine for a few days but I wouldn't want to stay the week.
Feb. 2024, Nice place to get away. Scenic views, cute cabin, good vibes! Will plan to stay again!
