A cozy little campground in East Lyme, The Island is a local hidden gem. We were one of the only tent sites in the park but it was okay because the RVs surrounding you create a surprisingly quiet and friendly little community. All of the neighbors were very kind and the owner, Kevin, was the best! He honestly is the full reason for this five star review. Kevin made sure that we had everything we needed for a great night on the lake, even going as far as giving us firewood and kindling.
The primitive site for tent camping is right on the beach and had beautiful views sunset views that make up for all of the ducks in the swimming area. Stunning! The site itself was cozy and all you need for a night under the stars. There are two trees that you can hang a hammock from (although you may need a little extra rope to make it work) and the sound of the waves lapping at the beach made for a peaceful night’s rest.
One of my favorite RV Parks! Kevin is doing a great job as the new owner of this hidden gem. It is a quiet, well maintained, small RV park in a wonderful location. My spot was spacious and level. It is easy to find and Kevin is super helpful with clear, detailed instructions. There is a swimming beach and you can enjoy a paddle around the lake in your kayak! I enjoyed slow, easy mornings admiring the lake views and ventured to several nearby state parks for hiking and photography. There is also great access to quaint downtown areas with good shipping and delicious restaurants. You should definitely visit!
My girlfriend and I stayed here over the past weekend and had a great time. Kevin was a fantastic host that took care of us. The campground was in a perfect location to enjoy a view of the lake, and the campsites all had easy access to electricity, water, and a dumping station. Kevin recently took over this camping ground, and I think he's going to do very well with this place. I would highly recommend anyone that is looking for a campground to visit The Island RV Park.
Beautiful water to swim in and great shade. Happy to be surrounded with trees. Enjoyed kayaking with my family. Nearly every morning a mama duck and her babies greeted us near the shore! It was tranquil and allowed my wife and I to relax from the hectic day to day. My family will be returning as soon as possible! We want to revisit the calm lake-front campsite.
I live full time in an RV and I can say with absolute certainty that this is my favorite RV spot so far BY A LOT.
First of all, the location is perfect. You're situated on a small, non-commercialized island that has a stunning view of the lake no matter which spot you get. The people at the park were incredibly nice, including the owners. The two guys running this park will do anything to make sure you have a good stay.
Second of all, even though this park is located in a quaint, quiet area of CT, it is still perfectly located to take a train to NYC, it's super close to Providence RI, and another quick trip to Boston. Even though this place is quiet, it is surrounded by potential activities.
I was fortunate enough to be here during fall, so everything I did was full of beautiful colors and scenery. If you are ever looking for a good central RV location, then this is it. I consider myself lucky to have stayed here.
