About Campground

Looking for a “wild” experience? You will find it at Brazos Bend State Park, just 45 miles from downtown Houston!

Things to Do

Nature has top billing at this park. Be sure to bring your walking shoes, binoculars and camera.

Besides marveling at nature, you can also hike and bike, fish, picnic, geocache, ride your horse, and stay overnight. Reserve one of our picnic pavilions or our group hall for your next group gathering.

Pay due respect to alligators, which are common in some areas of the park. Read our alligator safety tips before you come.

Stay

Reserve a campsite, screened shelter, or cabin. Bring your nonprofit youth group for a campout.

You can also book campsites that are ready to use, complete with a safari tent, bed and other camping amenities.

Explore

We have 37 miles of trails, some of which are wheelchair-friendly. You can experience them on foot, bike or horseback. We have an all-terrain wheelchair for use in the park; call us to reserve it for your visit: (979) 553-5101, x0.

Creekfield Lake Nature Trail: This fully paved .5-mile trail tours a wetland area. You’ll find exhibits with touchable bronzes of wildlife, an accessible boardwalk and observation deck, and rest areas with shaded benches.

Hike and bike trails: Trails circle lakes, connecting with each other and heading into the hardwood forest. Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet, and must not drink from or enter the lakes. Read about alligator safety on park maps and on signs in the park.

Horseback riding: We have 13 miles of multiuse trails. You must bring your own horse and show proof of negative Coggins. Weather conditions can lead to trail closures; call the park for trail updates before your visit.

Directions

The park is approximately a one-hour drive from downtown Houston. Take Highway 59 South to the Crabb River Road exit. You may also take State Highway 288 south to FM 1462 West. Follow FM 1462 to FM 762 North. If traveling from south of the park, follow State Highway 288 North to the FM 1462 exit or take State Highway 36 to FM 1462 East. All routes are marked with brown signs to guide you.

We Love going here. So much to see and do. Amazing hikes, camping, fire pits, grilling, alligators, visitor centres, baby alligators, wildlife, rivers, lakes, cycling the list is endless. Great for picnics and walks. Viewing towers are a must as are the visitor centres where you can get up close to local wildlife like snakes, alligators and spiders. Staff are super helpful and informative.

It was fun hiking a 10 mile trail, a great place to take pets. I visited the place in fall and it was kinda spooky cause of the dried trees and everything, which made the journey more interesting and fun... But can't wait to come back in the spring 🌱. Hopefully I'll see some mama and papa alligators once they are back from the hibernation 💚🐊

It's a beautiful park with many hiking/bike trails. We spent 2 hours riding the bike and didn't get to go on all the bike trails yet. It's close to Houston (35 minutes drive). We got to see many turtles in the river while we were biking. And one mooring, we was a family of deers run across the street. We definitely would stay here again and make sure to stay longer next time.

Beautiful park. I went for a bike ride and enjoyed the scenery. Well maintained. Hopefully the water level rises. I can’t wait till I go camping here.

UPDATE: So I came back and camped overnight in the primitive campsite. It was Holiday Vacation for the schools so it was kind of packed. I felt the campsites were close to each other but other than that, it was amazing. Such a beautiful park and friendly staff!!

Starting off our year trying to visit as many state parks as we can with our pass. This was the 3rd and by far had the best playground, as well as a great gift shop for those who collect patches/pins, etc. they have it ALL here. My 3 kids made it difficult to do a ton of hiking so I can only assess the 40 mile trail and the short one to the observatory across from the nature center but my family had a great time, esp with the baby alligator they let my sons pet. I will prob come back another time with my oldest son to do more hiking 🥾 10/10
