So, the grounds and location are great, and I'm sure the campground was very nice a long time ago, but it needs some work and attention. One flush bathroom under office with pay showers? I mean it's only $.50 to take a shower, but still a hassle. Went during rain, everything was muddy and wet, roads are rough, camp sites are pretty much a cleared area on a slope with a fire rink and a pretty crusty picnic table. Grass needed cut in our site.
I still recommend it, price is fair, staff was nice, prices are reasonable. I just hope the new owners are working to upgrade the facilities, and sites to make it better.
Very cheap, quaint little cabins that have a bathroom, small kitchen with a porch outside. You also have a fire pit and two tables to sit at. If you need to use the shower it costs 50 cents and it's a community one. There are only 2 other cabins and one is for a big group, although tons of tent camping and very accessible to all of the sights throughout the Laurel highlands.
Tent camped 4 nights, and while the grounds were beautiful, it was not what we expected from the description. The campground map was inaccurate. With the exception of the bathroom/paid shower at the entrance which you had to drive to from your site due to distance, all the bathrooms were closed with a port a potty in front of them. There was no water to clean dishes—- that required driving back to the entrance to wash in the bathroom sinks. Staff were friendly but not knowledgeable about the campground. Camp store closed during the hours we were told it was open. Very primitive. Never saw the game room that is listed on the site. Either the campground needs to be updated, or the website needs to be updated to manage expectations.
Found this little gem last week while searching online. Me and my girlfriend stayed here last night at a tent site (A-3). We had a great time! Actually will be back next weekend also
Tall Oaks is a wonderful place to be. I got a tent site and it was awesome. The electric worked great. The sites aren’t too close together. The showers are no more than a mile walk from any site. You definitely feel “ back in the woods” at tall oaks and it is so relaxing! Definitely recommend.
