About Campground

The 917-acre Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area is one of the largest state forests in Dutchess County. Most trails on this property allow multiple uses. It is very popular with mountain bikers, horseback riders, and dog walkers. Please be respectful of all users.

Primitive Camping

Camping at two designated sites is permitted on a first-come-first-serve basis. They're located on the west side of Brockway Road, south of Tyrrel Road.

At-large primitive camping is also allowed. At-large campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

There are many obvious trails but they are poorly marked. There should at least be markers at every intersection. It’s very easy to start following auxiliary trails that were likely created by bikers to avoid certain terrain obstacles or to make their ride more interesting…..awesome for them, but not for those on foot who are not familiar with the location.

Awesome place to go for outdoor fun. Not the greatest place to take kids or dogs during hunting season though

My first time here on the mountain bike.

Tons of trails to ride on, and the routes are readily apparent as you roll along. I used the TrailForks app to help me keep track of my riding directions.

Rode Timbucktwo which was a nice trail with a little bit of everything, yeah mountain bike heaven out here.

Not only Mountain biking , but if you are big into 4 wheeling you could do that too, with some impressive Jeep climbs.

Overall nice place, I'll have to go a few more times to hit some more of the trails . There really is no bad lot to park in either lol.

Enjoy Ride hard n be safe..

I love this place. Great MTB trails, hiking and my absolute favorite spot in the Hudson Valley to meditate. The peaceful natural surrounding if you go deep enough is very relaxing.
