The location of the campground couldn’t be nicer but, when we got there I had to search out someone to check in (not in the office) and I felt like I was bothering her when I asked for some directions to the site etc. no paperwork, no garbage bags, no sites labeled with numbers, no idea where restrooms were etc. The site itself was okay but the water was so far to the other side my standard length hose would not reach so we had to use a container and carry it to the camper. The bathrooms are dirty and not stocked with toilet paper a couple times (I started carrying tissues) and only one men’s and one women’s shower for the entire campground. The water is undrinkable and tastes like baking soda (briney). We had to go get water elsewhere to make coffee, drink, do dishes but not much to be done about showering. In general the campground was quiet by 11pm but lots of partying before that with the regulars who zip around between their sites in golf carts. WiFi was available, not the best but not too bad for the location. The beach is lovely but we couldn’t figure out how to get to it without crossing someone else’s campsite (again signs or a map would be helpful). All in all the camp worked for our needs but we wouldn’t stay there again.

Our stay was so lovely at Sunset Bay RV Resort and Campground! You cannot beat the view! The owner was friendly as was the person helping him. We stayed at site 17 and had plenty of room for our 29' Camper and room for activities. You are close enough to Houghton in case you forgot anything but they do keep some necessities on site in the office which is very handy! You have a quick drive to waterfalls and plenty of historical sites to check out if you want to venture out! We are already thinking about our next stay!

I really enjoyed the location of this campground, but it's in bad need of some upgrades. Showers are not cleaned daily; they may empty the waste basket, but a shower that is shared by several guests needs more attention. The floors are mopped, but not with soap and water or disinfectant. The locks on all of the baths were in poor repair. Again, it's a male/female shared bath, so this would have been nice. The water system is softened with salt, but something needs correcting as it's completely undrinkable and tastes very very salty EVEN WITH FILTERS. Thank goodness for a nearby Dollar General where we could get bottled water.

Cheryl is very helpful and friendly upon arrival, but it's a large park and could probably use more attendants. The Lake Superior waterfront, however, was SPECTACULAR! A bit difficult to get to it since there are campsites all along it and you don't want to walk through someone's space.

WIFI is weak, but this is the UP so it's expected.

The positives:

Great location right on the bay. Epic sunset views. Tons of rocks on the beach. Yooperlites galore! Check in was easy and the staff was very accommodating.

The negatives:

The sites are much closer together than they appear in the photos. Neighbors are very close. There is a single restroom with a shower (one for men, one for women) which caused some wait time, but nothing too bad.

Worth noting:

I thought I had already paid when I made the reservation online, but I guess they don't charge your card until you get there.

Location, location. Tent sites are front-row to Lake Superior. 15 steps to the water, great place to dig your camp chair heels in and watch the sunset, Milky Way, falling stars and faraway ship lights.

Staffed in the evening by real people, unlike state park campgrounds. The owner/attendant was refreshingly low-key and motherly. And you can get ice and wood anytime. Nearly full when we were there on a September weekday, but super quiet at night.

High sandstone fire edifices easy to tend. Wood is a good value, but have a backup plan for cooking in case your bundle is sorta green and slow like ours was.

Bathrooms near and reasonably clean. Be aware one door has shifted, and at the time we were there it wasn’t lockable, so take a guard along to that one.

Handy hydrants at each site. You might bring cooking water since it’s quite brown there. Probably not dangerous, just how it is in the area due to local minerals.

GO. This one is near the top of the list for peaceful and beautiful, and the small negatives are outweighed by the positives.
