July 2015 // Ugh! That 1 mile, 1000 ft elevation gain stretch of the trail was tough!!! But the lakes were beautiful. You have to trek a little ways off the trail to get to lake #2 but it's worth seeing. We've camped there before. There's an island swimmers can swim to. If you fish, check out lake #3. Lots of brookies. And you'll run into fewer people here. Very peaceful. We even saw a peregrine falcon circling overhead. What a treat!
Beautiful lake for camping in August 2020. We had a nice spot on the north side of the lake with a little sand beach. Water was very refreshing since it was August. All three lakes are beautiful but definitely less people at Lake 3 so worth the extra steps. Great tip if camping here is to scramble up the slope on the northwest corner of Lake 3 and watch an amazing sunset over Lake 2 with its cool island!!
