Semi-primitive camping facilities are located within the Soldier Meadows Hot Spring Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). Facilities in this area include primitive campsites (parking areas and fire pits), a vault toilet, a primitive cabin, and walking trails that lead to the hot springs.
There are seven defined campsites in the ACEC. Five are located in the Hot Creek Campground, one is at the Cabin Site, and the last is located above the Hidden Spring to the west of the main hot springs area. The primitive cabin is available for public use on a first-come first-served basis.
Note that Soldier Meadows is one of the most highly visited areas in the NCA. If you are looking for solitude, this may not be your place.
Free, dispersed camping.
Middle of now where campground with hot spring, but great for a weekend adventure.
The second star is for how pretty the area is. But the truth is, it was better before it was full all the time—or more than full, with people camping illegally all over the place). And before red spider mite season became nearly year-round. No amount of hot spring soaking can ease the hundreds of itchy bites you get from the critters that live in it. Ouchie-wouchies AF.
The hot springs are infested with Red Spider Mites. The place is beautiful but stay out of the springs. They burrow into your skin and leave welts like the hives.
There are designated tent pads so that you have a nice place to poop a tent without rocks or foliage underneath. Fire rings for each camp site as well. It's well maintained and a beautiful landscape to enjoy.
