Campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis only. Campers are required to register and obtain a free camping permit for specific campsites during the early elk archery season. The permit must be affixed to the campsite post during your stay. Registration is not required the remainder of the year. Early elk archery season generally takes place for three weeks in September, but exact dates vary. Leaving items unattended to hold a campsite is prohibited. Due to the high numbers of visitors during this period, no individual or group may camp for more than 14 days. A maximum of five people are allowed per campsite.

Willapa National Wildlife Refuge consists of several units in southwest Washington State. In general, we strongly recommend that you do not rely on an electronic navigation device to find your way around the refuge. The rural character of the area, inaccurate maps, and limited reception can lead you astray.
From Portland, Oregon, two different routes will lead to the area of the Refuge:
Highway 26 west to Highway 101 north
Interstate 5 north to Highway 30 west to Highway 101 north
From Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle, Washington, three different routes will lead to the Refuge:
State Route 8 west to Highway 107 to State Route 101 south
Interstate 5 south to State Route 6 west to Highway 101 south
