Amazing lake for shore and kayak fishing. stoked well with trout but you might catch a lot of small fry before a keeper. crowds have always been pleasant. Washboard road there similar to rampart.
Please note! This is cleaned and kept up by those who camp there. Pack out your trash and leave the public restroom cleaner than when you got there. If we all do our part, Skaguay will stay a perfect family getaway. Beautiful easy access camping and fishing. Has camping sites right next to the water, and several more secluded spots if you hike a bit. Boat dock in the parking lot, and easy access to drop in a canoe or kayak. Public bathrooms as well. This is a colorado gem in my opinion. I go here several times a year by myself and with the family. The drive from colorado springs is a treat in itself. Take your time and enjoy the views.
Great little getaway from Colorado Springs and amazing scenery, good hiking. The towns of Cripple Creek and Victor are nearby as well, if you like exploring old mining towns.
First time I've been there and there was trash all over the place. This last two times I went, there was not as much trash. Some the second time. Looks like people are caring a little more. There was quite a few people fishing and boating and rafting. I personally did not have a bite at all. But it's a beautiful Lake and I'm glad that they started taking good care of it. The toilet Vault was pretty dirty nasty and no toilet paper but a big improvement from the last time I went.
One of my favorites! I come ever other year for my birthday to fish the day away! It's usually in the fall so weather can be tricky the roads are all dirt road and some farm animals can get lose be careful.. we fish for trout, they have rainbow trout here! It sure is beautiful!
