We stayed here for the first time this past weekend and it was not at all what we expected. We heard the hwy all day and not very much scenery. From the view of the map it looked like we would see lake superior from our campsite but you cannot see the lake at all. We were in the front half of the campsite and it was very loud. The first night that we were there, people next to us came at 11pm to start setting up there stuff and its supposed to be quiet time and with a little one camping in a tent it was very loud. It was super cold the 2nd night we were there and someone kept starting their car every hour or so. Every time they started the car we all woke up which was super annoying! To me sleeping in the car and sitting in the car all day is not camping but who am I to say! The camp sites are very close to each other. If you do stay here I do not recommend staying by the bathrooms you hear the doors slamming constantly. I will say that its a very clean campsite from the main office, showers and bathrooms though.

This campground is moderately good in the sense that it had proximity to Black Beach (15 min walk or 5 min bike ride) from the entrance lot camping spots. Service was ok, the front desk guy was friendly, there were some state clean up guys and they were not as friendly, but 1 of them was awesome and brought our firewood to our site. Upon arrival we were to camp in spot #1 and this is not exactly spacious enough for a tent on the back of the site because its right on an incline hill right next to the road. If you have a camper it fits on the gravel but your still going to be on top of your neighbors. We had to set up on the side right next to our neighbors, thank goodness they were so friendly and considerate of the close quarters. Regardless, a nice place to camp as long as you don't land in spot #1 where they squeezed in a tiny campsite.

Extremely quiet setting and amazing location. We were really happy with our stay. The bathrooms were incredibly clean and the main office was also very beautiful. We had everything we needed in our stay, including the close proximity to great trails in the area. Felt very safe as there was plenty of law enforcement presence in the area. I would recommend staying in the back portion of the campground, as we did, to eliminate the noise from 61. There is still quite a bit of traffic on the dirt road to Black Beach.

Some parts of the campground are fairly close to the highway, but it has a lot of nice conveniences like a spigot for purified water, showers, well-lighted toilets. You can book online. Just not one of those beautiful rugged places to camp but very convenient. The restrooms were some of the cleanest camp toilets I’ve used or seen!
