I loved this canyon. At the moment, it is winter, but I hope to go back in the spring because I know it will be so pretty. I like that you can come through the canyon and visit Sego. You can get out of the car and walk around to see the old buildings and structures.

Sego Canyon:

The canyon contains rock art from several peoples; Fremont, Ute and Barrier-style.

Barrier style are the oldest, dating back to 2000 BC, while the Ute style are the most recent, dating back to 1300-1600 AD.

Clearly this was an area frequently inhabited by ancient people for thousands of years.

Upon my visit there, I was disappointed to see that some petroglyphs had been defaced by graffiti.

I haven't returned to the canyon in over 7 years. I was happy to get photos of the petroglyphs before any further vandalism.

I hope these ancient records of such historical significance are being protected but outside of destroying the natural beauty of the environment, I'm not sure how?

I can only hope visitors will view these petroglyphs with the respect they so deserve and leave this area intact for the benifit of future generations.

Stunning. Truly one of a kind area. Sadly there is a lot of graffiti but the most beautiful and bizarre art I have ever seen. I went beginning of November had no problem getting over the washes in my Corolla. There is a pathway part before you get there that is extremely narrow to drive through. The paintings are almost as tall as me high up on the canyon walls. The lower ones are fenced off to prevent more damage. A do not trespass sign is posted for the ones on private property and they have a trail cam set up so they can prosecute. Because of their size you can see from the outside of the fence. Worth the trip if you are in the area. Wish I camped out instead of passing through.

👽 Sago canyon, utah . . . Lill & l had funn itts a very quiet area. Lotts of cactus and overgrown with tall weeds & brush did a lott of walking & hiking up & down small hills. 1 gass station so gett food & warder BEFORE YOU gett near here . Don't count on this gas station. Very eerie @ nite walking around. Lotts of animals making noises. Plenty of ghosts to chase YOU back to YOUR camper or tent. No sign of the ghost of PAIUTE Chief Zethafurrd 1880's . . . I'm a wanderer soooo I'm definitely going back .when leaving the desert, please remove 1 piece of glass or trash. A tortoise thanks YOU. enjoy Earthlings 👽
