From Coldspring, TX, take State Rt. 150 west 1.5 miles to Double Lake sign (Farm Rd. 2025). Turn left onto Rt. 2025 and go 0.4 miles to Double Lake Recreation Area sign (Forest Rt. 210). Turn left onto Rt. 210 and go 0.6 miles to campground.
Sort of grew on me after my initial impression. Very quiet and serene. Only 5 other RV's where in my loop. Only complaint I have is that the bathhouse shower across from site 51 did not work. Maybe it was me but I don't think so.
It's only 7 bucks per car for a day pass. The grounds are really well kept up with. The bathroom is close by. We just went swimming and ate lunch. It was really nice.
We visited for a day trip, just looking to explore a new park. We were so pleasantly surprised though!
The paved trail around the lake made for a great little hike with the kids (stroller-friendly enough). We also saw biking trails and hiking trails that we plan to go back and explore.
There is a very cute little swim beach with restrooms and picnic tables close by. The camping spaces were plenty spaced out, and most of them had a view of the lake.
I definitely believe this park has become a family favorite, and we plan to visit often!
This is one of the best camping places around Houston. My husband and I love it. There are lots of trails clearly marked for hiking and biking. Very nice place to enjoy the outdoors.
