A wonderful hike. I was the only one on the trail in August. Absolutely beautiful. Long but not terribly strenuous.

One of the most beautiful places on the planet! One should be careful though, we saw a black bear.

This hiking trail is 3 miles in and 3 miles out.

95% of it is uphill.

Coming back is definitely easier.

Views are wonderful and the lake is beautiful.

Beautiful area. I hiked west from the lake viewpoint to the Continental Divide trail, and then headed south, and you could see the Rio Chama river basin. There was an 800 ft high waterfall (east fork of the Rio chama). It ended up being nearly 16 miles though, but it was relatively flat terrain.
