About Campground

Overview: Twin Lakes Campground is located near a small, spring-fed, trout-stocked lake, popular with families. Visitors enjoy fishing, swimming and exploring local trails, including the Twin Lakes Trail. Natural Features: The Twin Lakes area is forested with a mixture of hardwoods. Many natural streams and creeks meander through the landscape within the Allegheny National Forest in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Allegheny is the state's only national forest. It covers nearly half a million acres and is populated primarily with black cherry, maple and other hardwoods. Recreation: Campers love Twin Lakes for its swimming beaches and lakeside fishing piers. Mill Creek offers native trout fishing, and can be accessed along the Mill Creek Trail. Hiking and backpacking are available along area trails. The Black Cherry National Recreation Interpretative Trail features nearly 40 interpretive displays along its path, and forms the eastern end of the Twin Lakes Trail, the second longest in the forest. Facilities: Twin Lakes Campground offers a variety of sites, from group picnic and overnight sites to family sites with and without electric hookups. Amenities include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. Ice and firewood are available for purchase. NOTE: This recreation area was set to close in fall 2017, permanently, until a local group of volunteers came together and formed the 501(c)3 nonprofit named "Friends of Twin Lakes ANF." As of 2018, visitors may encounter closed campgrounds, camping by work and stay only, no water, restrooms, or dump stations, day-use only, or walk in only. Directions

The PA DOT has issued a detour for camping rigs over 5 tons for Wilson Run Bridge on Township Road providing access from Highway 321 to Twin Lakes. The alternate route is Forest Road 191 heading west from the campground.

Northwest PA on State Route 321 about 8 miles south of Kane, PA. From State Route 321 at large campground sign, turn onto Forest Road 191. Go 2 miles on Forest Road 191 to the campground. Railroad underpass on entrance road restricts vehicle height to less than 10 feet.

Fees

This 48-site campground includes family campsites (some include electric hookups), 2 double campsites and 1 group tent campsites, for groups up to 50, with pavilions. Other facilities include both flush and vault toilets, hot water showers, both pressurized and pump water systems, trailer dump stations, paved paths and roadways and playgrounds. The day use area includes a swimming beach, bathhouse, picnic tables, pavilion, playground, walking trail around the lake and fishing piers.

The campground was once the site of a chemical factory, and the lake was built as a "splash dam" to raise water levels in a plant downstream.

It's a beautiful place, but it's the people that make it memorable! They're some of the kindest most friendly people that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! They were helping host the Twin Lakes Mushroom Foray. It was fun and educational for everyone involved. I'm sure that my family will visit again soon!

Twin Lakes hosted the 3rd annual Sunshine for Saige Jeep run this past Saturday 9/23/23. Even though the day was dreary, it was a great time. Many Jeeps did the run and activities back at Twin Lakes at the end of the day included a Chinese Auction, a small buffet meal, and a band to end the evening. Certainly many of the participants ended the evening staying at one of the campsites available at the campground area. The fundraiser for Saige is an awesome event and surely you won't want to miss it next year... usually takes place around the 3rd Saturday in September. See you there next year!!
