The lake was formed about 20,000 years ago when rising magma-encountered groundwater resulting in violent steam explosions. The resulting explosions formed a broad shallow crater, which later filled with water. The lake covers an area of 99 acres with average depth of 33 feet with a maximum depth of 58 feet. South Twin Lake is a lure's toss from the Deschutes arm of Wickiup Reservoir and less than a mile south of North Twin lake. Motorized boats are prohibited on this body of water. For boat launch information see South Twin Day Use .
From Bend, travel 26.8 miles south on Hwy 97 to Wickiup Junction, then 11.0 miles west on County Road 43, then continue 4.6 miles west on Forest Road 42, and finally 2.0 miles south on Forest Road 4260.
The New owner is doing a great job!
Most of the staff is very helpful, especially the lady behind the counter at the store. Stephanie in the restaurant is one of the best waitresses I've ever had! Too bad she left before the season ended.
The only thing they are missing is WiFi for customers... cell service is virtually non-existent up there...
I’ve stayed in the cabins for years. They have made some improvements but it’s still a very rustic cabin. Set your expectations: it’s basically glamping. If you ask me, they charge too much for what it is. That said, the lake is beautiful. It’s crowded on the weekends but if you can be there during the week, it’s quite peaceful.
After a few full days of camping nearby by our party decided to shower & get some food at the lodge. We had a great meal by the lake & enjoyed some cocktails. The food was delicious & will be back to enjoy another summer!
We had such a great couple of down days @TwinLakesResort with our kids. We stayed in the big cabin right by the lake. Had a great time. John and Charlie were absolutely delightful. We will most assuredly be back!
Love this place! We drive out every year from our rental unit in Sunriver. Love the food in the restaurant and have a great time using rental kayaks and SUP. My grandson says this is more fun than flying somewhere for vacation.
