From jct I-71 & US 30: Go 2 mi E on US 30, then 1/4 mi S on Hwy 603 to Hwy 430.
I have a 40ft 5th wheel and had a horrible time pulling into the back in sites, 1-7. They are at a 90° angle off a narrow paved road with the other side being a ditch. I drove onto the grass a little to get more room. But because of all the recent rain, the grass/soil was soaked, and it sucked me into the ditch. With the weight behind me, I got stuck. I tried to pull forward but was spinning in the mud. I called a tow truck driver but not what you need after a long day of driving. Even the ranger said these back in sites are terrible because the road is too narrow. The lake sites are on a hill and paved but still hard to get level. The water hook up was unusual as well, and I didn't get water until the next morning.
The next morning was peaceful around the lake until the tracters were scraping debris on concrete screeching right below me by the lake for hours. That finally stopped, and I asked if I could stay one more night due to upcoming bad weather on my route, and they said I have to move sites. That my site was booked. After all the trouble I had backing in, there was no way I was going to attempt that again. And they were not understanding or sympathetic whatsoever at the office. The guy was very apethetic as if i were invisible. If they had pull through sites or a wider road, the lake itself was peaceful and nice, but after all that I would not stay here again.
My family & I recently tent camped @ the Main Campground of Charles Mills.
There are 3 sections to this campground; Eagle Point, the Beach Campground & the Main Campground.
Eagle Point was located across the street from Beach and Maine Campground. We really didn't explore this area.
The Beach campground area is primitive (no electric) but more spacious, surrounded by trees & lake. Grills, picnic tables, Bathrooms all near by!
The Main Campground is where we stayed. Most of the area is occupied by RV/pop-up's.
The bathrooms were actual bathrooms along with showers! Bathrooms were wheelchair accessible as well. Such an added bonus!
Washers and dryers were available for a small fee.
There was a good truck available. You can purchase ice and firewood at the main entrance. Nearest store was approximately 15 mins away.
Everyone in the community was super nice.
The property is very clean!
Our campsite was a little small but enough to have a canopy, 2 tents. They provide a picnic table and fire pit. It was perfect for us.
Check in is at 4, Check out is at 2!
Next door, we rented a Pontoon boat! I highly recommend it!! We rented it for 2 hours, 8 person boat for the 3 of us. We loved that it provided shade & had a great stereo! Total cost was $170 but definitely worth the memories.
If you wish to fish, you must have an active fishing license.
You can rent fishing boats, kayaks & larger Pontoon boats.
I highly recommend this campground!
The Lake was beautiful along with the property.
We will definitely be back!
