Diamond Peak stands as a sentinel over Odell Lake, one of the blue giants of the Deschutes National Forest. This large lake is 3562 acres, 6 miles long and 1 1/2 miles wide, and reaches a depth of 282 ft. The average depth is 132 ft. which makes it ideal habitat for lake trout (Mackinaw) and bull trout. Rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and whitefish also naturally reproduce in this lake. Odell Lake is managed as a trophy lake trout fishery and has the distinction of the last two state record lake trout being caught here. The current state record is a 40 lb 8 oz 45.5 inch long giant caught in 1984 by Kenneth Erickson. Bull trout is listed as a threatened species with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and is thus closed to angling. Odell Lake also offers beautiful campsites tucked away in thick forests and some excellent wind surfing. Boats are the most effective way to fish this lake but be aware of afternoon winds; the lake can get dangerously rough. Motorized and non-motorized boats are allowed on this body of water. For boat launch information see Princess Creek Boating Site, Sunset Cove Boating Site , Trapper Creek Boating Site, Odell Lake Resort and Shelter Cove Resort.
Just stopped at the viewpoint because why not. But it was raining and there was a lot of traffic so it wasn't the best experience stopping that close to the highway.
Stopped for a rest stop, beautiful lake. There was a marina near by and camp grounds. Would love to spend the weekend there one time!
First time here at the beginning of June and it was a COLD Night. We tent camped but they offer rooms in their cozy lodge, cabins, and RV hookups as well. We woke up to enjoy a delicious breakfast while warming up by a fireplace. We only stopped in for the night but they offer fishing supplies as well as various rentals of boats and mountain bikes. Many trails around the resort but my son and I plan to come back to explore more when the time is right. Overcast weather for us made the view minimal but I think the skyline is normally gorgeous! I couldn’t imagine it any other way from the true hidden gem of Oregon!
The gentleman served my cup of coffee during breakfast and once I realized the burner hadn’t been on and my coffee was lukewarm, I waited to bring attention to it but a few families came in a overwhelmed the service I had been receiving. Once I finally had a chance to ask for a warm cup of coffee ($2.99) I was given less respect then I had hoped for and left a bad feeling with me. Besides that little experience I recommend this resort for anyone wanting to take their family out for a summer adventure!
