Recently refurbished roadside campground sits near historic Red River mining area and downhill ski resort. Can be very crowded during summer weekends. As an alternative, try BLM's Wild Rivers Recreation Area north of Questa.
2 miles west of Red River via NM 38
Had a great week here beating the heat, relaxing, hiking, and eating fresh trout. One water source. Two pit toilets. Stayed in two different spots. Bear came to the river at our spot once. Walked along the river on the other side. Lots of hummingbirds. Quick access to red river. Will return.
This is such a great place to visit if you’re visiting Red River. It’s a $10 day use fee or $20 overnight fee (cash or check only - no hookups but there are very clean bathrooms there and one water spigot). Our family really enjoyed finding all the pretty quartz rocks lying around as well as exploring the natural wildlife there. You can fish and explore the gorgeous area and enjoy a nice picnic at one of their many tables or fire ring areas. Highly recommend coming here for the day to enjoy the beautiful scenery or come boon docking with your camper or tent!
Loved this campground. Very well maintained other than some potholes. Kelly was amazing camp host. Very personable and friendly. Site 12 was my favorite but most on the river are great! Vault toilets were very clean and no smell. Firewood available for purchase. Was able to catch rainbow trout from the campsite. Close to town of red river.
Very clean campground. Excellent space setup for campers. We had more than enough room we could have put 4 or 5 tents in our space. We are use to having neighbors practically at arms reach so this was a very nice surprise. The camp sites do fill up fast in this area so try and get there earlier enough to check multiple camp grounds if necessary. The host was very nice. The creek that runs right beside is very nice and was nice to listen to at night. $22/night tent camping.
