Nat Caldwell Park, located on the shores of Old Hickory Lake, is just a short drive from Nashville, Tennessee. The park is an ideal place for a day of picnicking and boating with a convenient boat ramp for easy lake access and group picnic shelter for entertaining.
Old Hickory Lake is a 22,500 acre reservoir created by the Old Hickory Lock and Dam on the Cumberland River. The lake is named after former president Andrew Jackson, a Tennessee-native nicknamed "Old Hickory" for his tough and aggressive personality.
The lake features 440 miles of scenic shoreline, surrounded by wooded flatlands and plenty of access points.
Nat Caldwell is quieter than some of its neighboring picnic areas, making it a wonderful place to fish, view wildlife or simply get away from it all.
The group picnic shelter holds 50 guests and the parking area fits 45 vehicles. Facilities include flush toilets and a boat ramp.
Hikers can explore the 1.1-mile Old Hickory Lake Nature Trail with three loops that range in terrain: the Woodland Loop, Willow Swamp Loop and the Wildlife Loop.
The lake is also near The Hermitage, a National Historic Landmark and plantation where former president, Andrew Jackson lived in the early 19th century.
Go north of Nashville, TN, on I-65; exit onto Vietnam Veterans Blvd East and followuntil it rejoins Gallatin Road (Highway 31E), recreation area is 4 miles down onthe left and right side of Gallatin Rd.

Great place for a quick fishy fishy time. Lots of wood for bass to hide. Caught it on a Cremelure.com “Brush Hog”
It's near the road, so at times a bit loud, but it's by a lake and you can see wildlife (lots of cool guys if you know how or where to look! we saw a (what we think was) water snake today!) so that more than makes up for it :) There are picnic tables under an awning also!
Really pretty place! Water was smooth. We didn’t make it past the quarry so our trip was cut a little short but there’s no telling what all is passed it.
Nice place to kayak or canoe up the creek.
This creek goes through the query so there's not to many places to get out and rest or picnic. There are a couple places to get out and swing from trees at the beginning of the creek. But I didn't see and dry ground or rocky places to hang out or dry out. Water is a little swampy in spots but the ducks seemed to love it. This is a great place for bird watching as well. There are also lots and lots of turtles of many kinds all around. Didn't see snakes but im sure there around. Enjoy.
