From I-35, take State Highway 95 to County Road 12. Drive 3 miles on County Road 12 to the park entrance.
We love this park, lots of hiking and a great sandy area by the river. We have stayed at the cabins and the hike in campsites. The hike in was a bit of a trek but a beautiful site for relaxation and it had lovely peaceful mornings.
Nice park. Lots of wildlife. Camper cabins were decent. Terribly uncomfortable beds. I recommend an air mattress. Park staff was friendly. The hiking trails were good. You can't swim here the river isn't safe for swimming.
We visited on a fall weekday. The hiking club trail is half riverside and unpaved and half paved through the forest. River and fall colors are gorgeous. There are a few places with steps that will let you walk down to the beach, although one was blocked by a fallen tree. About a two mile loop.
The satellite bathrooms are open but picnic/shelter bathrooms are closed for the season.
