The South Carolina National Guard operates this facility at Lake Thurmond on a peninsula that is not open to the civilian public. Only 35 miles from Augusta GA, home of the Masters Tournament. The CG is on a gravel loop road with street lights. The ten gravel-buildup pads are 12' wide and vary in length from 16' to 28'. Each pad is back-in and includes water, 30 amp, picnic table, a grill, and partial tree shade. A clearing in the center of the CG offers ample room for multiple party canopies. Across the street is a community picnic area under a hardstand canopy.
From US-221, turn west onto SC 33-68, "Serpentine Way," at 33.82576, -82.25566. Turn right onto "Kay Waldrop Way" @ 33.80148, -82.27122. It dead-ends at the Clarks Hill Training Center entry gate @ 33.79809, -82.27390W. You'll cross five speed bumps from the front gate to the CG. --- NOTE: if you take the GA 28 "scenic route" from Augusta, it goes through miles of subdivisions and has a bridge. --- CAUTION: if you follow the Training Center's website directions, SC 23 has a narrow bridge @ 33.7893, -82.18277W
You must call ahead for special gate arrangements if you'll arrive after normal duty hours or on a weekend. NO dump. If you arrive after duty hours, you'll find CG agreement paperwork hanging on the front door of the small "headquarters building" on your left; just drop it in the honor box along with your money.
Our family and church family has had the most wonderful times during our stay in the cabins and the camping sites for many years now. We are so truly thankful for all the wonderful people that work hard to keep this place incredibly beautiful and clean as well as their endearing kindness.
