Directions

Take Exit 52 off I 84. From the West go to S Orchard Street and turn right. From the East, turn left. South Orchard turns in to W. Gowan Road, and bends around the west fence of the base. On arrival, proceed through the main gate to Ellsworth Avenue, just short of the flagpole, and turn left. The billeting office is located just down the street on the right, you must get a key to open the power box. If arriving after hours, ask the gate guard for a key. Leaving billeting, turn right on Ingalls Street and look for the blue signs with arrows to the left, it is the second street. Follow the street around to the RV sites.

3.5/5 - Easy online reservation. Concrete pad.

For background, this review is for a 1 night stay in January.

The Good: reservations can be booked online (which many mil parks do not have). Sites are paved, but not plowed in the winter. Pedestals have 20/30/50AMP (there was probably water and sewer, but not sure if they shut water off for the season and sewer would have been buried in a few inches of snow). There were 3 or 4 full-timers, which was comforting as a solo traveler, but might make peak season reservations more difficult.

The not-as-good: There were no instructions on how to get there and how check in after hours. I spoke with a full-timer who pointed me in the direction of a bar...of course the young bartender and AD customers had no idea anything about FamCamp. There's no posted sign that I could notice that identifies the area as FamCamp, and therefore nothing with an opportunity to explain off-season/after hours stays. I have no idea if there is a bath house and if there is, I had no idea if it is operational in the off season. It shares a fenceline with the flightline and hangars. Which isn't too odd for ambient noise as an AD family, but may be worth knowing before booking.

For a night, it was just what I needed (30AMP), once I found it.

If you haven't had the chance to visit Gowen Field on the military side or even the museum, take the time! It is amazing, very clean, and full of history.

Simple, full hookup, no frills. There is a laundry room and a small market within walking distance. There is also a lot of history to see.

Fun fact... This is where Jimmy Stewart served.

7 sites with full hook up next to a road. No bathrooms, we had to use the gym..we were in van w/ power but no potty. Good for an overnight in and out. No shade and would be brutal during the day if no A/C. On NG base, so very safe and comfortable. $42 a night, I would say about $20 too much. MWR was great and took my reservation while on the road.

Love it here. Air show was great! Only bad is there are so many big dogs running around without leashes on. And I have to be extra cautious with my little one. It seems lately people just don't care about their big dogs running all over the place. We will be back thank you Gowen field Air National Guard.
