Widewaters Campground is remotely located on Michigan's upper peninsula in the Hiawatha National Forest.
It sits on a stretch of heavily forested land between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, near a series of smaller lakes and the Indian River, making it an ideal getaway for anglers and explorers alike.
This small, quiet campground is perfect for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Anglers enjoy catching brook trout in the area.
The 9-mile Bruno's Run Trail, which winds its way past a host of small lakes in the area, passes directly through the campground and is a popular trail for hiking and biking, as well as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
The campground offers multiple well-spaced single-family sites, available for tent and RV camping. Sites vary from being heavily wooded and private, to open with little privacy. A few waterfront sites have access to the river. Some additional sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings and some have access to grills. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided.
Boat ramps are available at the campground and also at Fish Lake.
Widewaters is in a beautiful forest of mature hardwoods, sandwiched between Irwin Lake and Indian River.
From Munising, Michigan, go east on Michigan Highway 28 for about 3 miles. Turn south on Forest Highway 13 at Wetmore and continue for 12 miles. Turn west onto Forest Road 2262 and follow for about a mile to the campground entrance.
This is a clean and quiet campground with the perfect hosts who understand how to make your camping experience enjoyable. The sites are perfectly located on or near the water with lots of tree cover. Everyone seemed respectful. Would definitely come back.
We have stayed here several times. Lots of wildlife and good fishing. Canoeing is fun down the Indian river. Lots to do if your the outdoors man, woman. Nice location with lots of lakes nearby and nice trails for the 4x4 as well. We love it here!!
Beautiful quiet camping spot in the Hiawatha National Forest on Michigan's upper peninsula. Our spot was giant and somewhat isolated from adjoining spots. (Which is to say some tree cover to the left and the right of the spot). Pit toilets, clean and we'll maintained. Access to fresh drinking water. Well situated with good access to a variety of hikes, paddle sports, fishing and biking. There's a general store within a couple of miles or less.
Best campsite EVER! I love the privacy, the abundance of nature, the safe feeling it provides, and the cleanliness of the bathrooms. We have gone to this camp for two years now and it is our favorite spot. It's intimate but also has a community aspect to it. Great price too! It also has great nature paths to explore. Enjoy your visit.
