Rollways Campground is located 7 miles from Hale, Michigan along the beautiful AuSable River. The site was built in 1909 as one of the first campgrounds established in Huron National Forest. The space is small and secluded and features an observation area, picnic grounds and log shelter..
The facility is located just off the River Road National Scenic Byway in northeast Lower Michigan. The byway showcases incredible views of the AuSable River Valley.
Hike on the accessible trail that connects the campground and picnic area to Westgate Scenic Overlook. Bring binoculars and a camera to take advantage of the epic view.
The same hiking path passes a stairway leading down to the river where visitors can fish and wade.
The campground offers 19 pull-through campsites with picnic tables, a lantern post, grills, tent pads and campfire rings. At the picnic area, a log shelter, picnic tables and grills are available.
Vault toilets and drinking water spigots are dispersed throughout the campground and all roads and camping spurs are paved.
Rollways is perched on a high bluff overlooking Loud Dam Pond on the AuSable River. The river flows from west to east for 138 miles until it reaches the great Lake Huron.
Follow the length of the 22-mile River Road National Scenic Byway, which parallels the AuSable River.
From Hale, Michigan, travel 7 miles north on M-65. Turn left on Rollways Road and enter campground on the right.
Unless you enjoy a camp manager looking through your truck as she rides he bike to your camp I'd go up the street somewhere else.
I left camp for 30 mins. I came back and my small camp fire was put out.
The signs say put it out when you leave. not every time you leave.
No privacy and she was nosy.
Not worth $3 let alone $15
We loved this campground. Some of the best camping to be had in Michigan. Trout fishing nearby within walking distance, pristine woods, and wolves howling in the distance at night. This is a wonderful place. The bathrooms were very clean, some of the cleanest outhouses I have ever seen. We highly recommend this place.
This place was PERFECT.
Rustic- Set in the woods- neighbors are close but feels private. Each spot is staggered/kiddie corner.
Connected by Trails to a private fishing spot and 2 overlooks on a 1 mile hike through the woods.
Cheap and easy to book
As a young child of 11 years old, I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks with my grandparents there in a 2 bedroom cabin there. I learned to fish, bait and clean my own fish there. I has always been a dream and on my bucket list to return one more time. But, time has passed. Now, 70 years old and residing in a nursing facility. My journeys now are by the World Wide Web. Thank you Rollways for the memories.
