Becareful camping up here. All our food was locked up and trash picked up however there where two black bears wondering around our tents and other campers as well. One was about 600 pounds and the other had to atleast be 800 pounds. Stay safe and know what to do if you encounter a bear: one another note I love this place, I have camped there since I was a kid. This was the first time ever encountering bears here.
Rounding up here. 4.5 I'd say. Beautiful scenery, FREE (like what's better than free), and no hassle. We rolled in at midnight, set up our kit. Slept, and left by 9. Didn't have to talk to another soul, just got to enjoy nature. The only issue. There is SO much trash like tons. Please pick up your trash, like imagine going somewhere Beautiful, enjoying yourself, then littering. If you read this and wanna be altruistic bring an extra trash bag.
This has been my go to spot for camping the past two years. The area is first come first pick of campsites but it is free to stay. All sites have a fire pit. You do have to walk into the camping area - there is no vehicle access to the sites.
Went for overnight camping and some swimming with my pup. The trash wasn't an issue as I read it has been. Didn't run into any crazy animals. It did storm a couple times but it didn't ruin the experience. The access to the lake is great! I was glad to swim with my pup in such a hot day. I think my main complaint is that it's so close to the highway you get car noise all night. I'm a light sleeper, the sound of nature would have been much better. Also there was a boardwalk to the creek but it was totally broke. Other than that, it's free, first come first serve. The other campers were really nice families and for a holiday it wasn't packed which is always a bonus. When I arrived I had plenty of tent spots to choose from.
