About Campground

The White River National Forest offers many dispersed camping opportunities, from backpacking to undeveloped car camping along designated Forest Roads.

There are many dispersed camping opportunities on the forest ranging from backpacking to car-camping along designated Forest Roads. Visitors are encouraged to minimize resource impacts by utilizing established sites rather than creating new ones. Dispersed camping sites along Forest Roads are shown on Motor Vehicle Use Maps, which are available free of charge at ranger district offices.

Visitors are permitted to drive vehicles up to 300 feet from designated routes for purposes of dispersed camping as long as no resource damage is incurred in the process. Dispersed camping within 100 feet of lakes, streams, and forest system trails is prohibited unless otherwise designated. Campers may stay for a maximum of 14 days. Some areas may have additional special restrictions.

Absolutely breathtaking views! We went during the fall leaves and there was hardly anyone up on the trail and plenty of camping options

We did the Loop today and every minute was beautiful. The wild flowers were amazing and I have never seen so many waterfalls.

Gods throne room. Warning however, The avalanche debris field when entering the clockwise loop of lead king basin then on to crystal mill is not even remotely passable by stock vehicles without risking serious damage to undercarriage or sidewalls. It’s a flat tire machine. Full size trucks will not be able to navigate the turns either due to wheel base. I would call it challenging for even heavily modded vehicles without a spotter. Unstable sharp logs, significant articulation needed and deep mud pit to get through as of June 25. The conditions can change rapidly with the nature of the shifting slush and amount of logs that the trail is made of. It could be improved for stock jeeps or other shorter wheel base vehicles to pass with about an hour of work filling in holes. We cleared it easy with a spotter in the 4runner. Needed to get wheels on some logs and definitely sat on the skid plates at one point.
