We’ve been camping for years, and our favorite parks tend to be Texas State Parks, which tend to have great amenities, updated fixtures, and quality roadways & camping pads. This park is definitely NOT a Texas State Park. Not just because it’s a Corps of Engineers park, but because the differences are definitely notable.

Although the views are masterpieces and the volume of people sparse, this park needs a LOT of TLC. We camped in site 31, which was fairly flat, however we still had to do a fair amount of leveling in our camper. The site itself was nice, including sewer and a standard 20/30 amp connection, plus water. The roadway within the park is uneven and has several broken areas, so be mindful as you make your way to your campsite.

The day use areas are questionable at best. In the area we visited, there are 2 picnic pavilions that have literally eroded into the lake. The bathroom facility near the same area is also abandoned and reminiscent of a horror film.

Amenities are light, which isn’t a major issue. There’s lots of room to bring your own activities and enjoy the park, and fishing is a must.

All-in-all, this is a park we’ll probably be back to, but mainly because of it’s proximity to the DFW area, and because of the quiet atmosphere. If not for those things, we’d definitely be looking for a Texas State Park rather than this one.

Beautiful views from this campground, but boy, does it need work! This is an older COE, and it sure shows. Roads need repair and just general maintenance all over the park. There are all three hookups at this campground and beautiful views, but that's about it. We have gone to many COE campgrounds, and they can do better.

Great location in proximity to Dallas, Rockwall is a nearby city with lots of eating and shopping options and only 10-15 minutes away. Campground has spacious sites with full hookups but isn’t maintained very well (mowing). This location is VERY quiet if you’re looking for a peaceful quiet campground.

Host booth is closed for renovations. (?) Have no clue who to check in with. Entrance and exit hours are 10a to 10p.. no getting fresh donuts with your morning coffee here :(

Typical treeless park but has some great sites up next to the lake. Bathrooms are clean, well stocked, and in working order.

Not much for eats close by, Sonic, Taco Bell and a Dunkin Donuts (just don't try and get some in the morning to take back to watch the sunrise). Go a little further down 78 towards Wylie and there are many more restaurants as well as a Walmart for shopping.

The roads (sites) and restrooms seem better here then the other campground closer to Wylie.

Beware, there is a train rail next to the park that has several routes going through in the middle of the night (no horns close by, but it does rumble on the opposite side of where the lake is).

Overall, it was a pleasant stay.
