Lakes of the Clouds Hut is an essential bucket list destination. After a hearty meal and a bunk for the night, tackle Mount Washington or Mount Monroe, hike Tuckerman Ravine or traverse the Presidential Ridge for views of the Great Gulf Wilderness, the Wildcats and peaks beyond.
After catching the sunset at Mt. Washington, I was the last to arrive at 8:30pm on Friday, September 14th. I was fully prepared to eat my freeze dried food, but instead I was met with a warm smile and hot food upon my arrival.
The hut was very warm and well lit in the common areas. Plenty of snacks for purchase, games to play and booked to read. The rooms had no power or lighting, but had a pillow and 2 wool blankets. It was plenty warm for that evening.
The staff was super nice and well informed.
Staying at the AMC huts is always an amazing experience, and this one is no different. Great food and shelter are wonderful things while hiking in the mountains!
I found this restaurant on a trail map. It’s a bit of a hike (no parking lot) but the view is totally worth it. It’s also on the pricier side, but your meal comes included with an overnight bunk, which you will probably need if you choose to dine here. What stands out above all else is the service. The staff is fantastic and knowledgeable about far more than culinary delights — which they have to backpack in twice per week! 10/10 would lakes again.
No other options at his location but that's ok because the service here is great. Rustic shared rooms with bunk beds and shared meals. Great experience and the biggest of the huts. Hard to beat the location.
