An very stunning campsite that has been well cared for and tended to. It is also home to a large number of birds, the songs of which may be heard throughout the day. Exceptionally simple access to the water, as well as a boat ramp. Wonderful opportunities for fishing and breathtaking vistas

The only thing that bothers me is when individuals leave their trailers to hold positions. Almost every camping spot included a trailer, yet for the course of the whole weekend, the owners of those trailers were conspicuously absent from their abodes.

Small free camping area on the shore of CJ Strike providing half a dozen sites mainly with space for truck campers. Only one spot for a tent that I could find. Two vault outhouses. Fire rings at each site, but no tables. Some scrub to act as wind break. Noisy dogs at nearby house and sounds from military maneuvers at the base, but otherwise peaceful and moderately pretty at sunset. Lots of waterfowl. Best for fishermen. 14 day limit, but can return after 5 days. No water.

Updated to downgrade rating after two nights having my campsite invaded, first by drinking teenagers and then the local Sherriff asking i was living there, as if camping in a public campground was an unusual thing. Not Recommended!

Very beautiful campground that is well groomed and maintained. It is filled with birds as well that you can hear singing all day long. Very easy access to the water and a boat ramp. Wonderful fishing and beautiful views

Only complaint: people leaving their trailers to hold spots. Just about every camp ground had a trailer in it, however, nobody ever showed up to their trailers for the duration of the weekend.

An open access site with no amenities…just how I like to camp. There is a pit toilet on the left as you drive in, but it was locked (March 23rd). I stayed for a night at the first spot, at the end of the access road - enough room for a small vehicle. There are a few more spots further around the bend with a lot more room for turning around. I had a very quiet…until the magnificent birds woke up!

This location is beautiful, the water is amazing to get out on, fishing is superb, and you could watch the birds all day. I would give this location 5 stars, but for two reasons. Here's the downside:

1. Bugs. Obviously, it's close to the water, so there are lots of bugs.

2. Here's the main reason I'm knocking this down to a three. Apparently, this is a popular area for pheasant hunting. In what world is it ok to have hunters in the exact same area as a campground? This just does not make sense to me. I was willing to look past the noise of gunshots, no biggy. What I'm not ok with is irresponsible hunters who shot in the direction of our RV AND hit it.

Honestly, it would be justified to knock this to a one rating as a result, but it doesn't seem fair since human stupidity is a big reason for the rating. Check for hunting season prior to arriving!
