We've been coming to Split Rock for over 15 years. This is our favorite getaway place to come to. It's nice and quite, the bathrooms are always clean and the park ranges are so helpful and friendly. We Love watching the wild live and theres no better place for Camping.
This is a smaller park surrounded by farm fields, but it has a lot to offer. There are 3 picnic shelters, one on either side of the lake, and the third tucked back in the wooded area. Camping as of this posting is $12 for primitive sites and $15 for electric. There are walking paths through the wooded sections of the park. There is a boat launch into the lake (electric motors only). There is a small section of sand swimming beach, and the sand extends all the way into the water. There was no muck I had to walk through or anything to get to deeper water. I didn't even need swim shoes at this lake. According to the DNR the max depth is 12 feet. We were there on May 1st, which was the first 90°F day of the year, so the water was quite cold, but it is a great swimming lake. And if you made it to the end of this review, I'll give you the secret I've been keeping. As of our visit, this is a blue water lake, which is very rare and means high quality, pure water with a low algae content. My favorite activity is to bathe/swim in natural water, so I've been in multiple places in the rivers and lakes around this part of the state, and this was the most lovely natural water I've been in, and that includes swimming in the Mississippi River, Lake Michigan, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Great secluded location with a lot of amenities, clean shower house and real bathrooms. My family and I frequent this campground often and I have never had a negative experience while camping here. They offer a great playground for the children and even have a full size sand volleyball pit. The "lake" is okay for taking a dip, but not so much if your trying to fish. All and all this is a great campground that my family will continue to visit every year for the foreseeable future.
One of our favorite places to camp. Nice beach, clean bathrooms, fishing and kayaking spot
Excellent park and campground!! A real hidden gem in Chickasaw County! Boat launch, small beach, nice playground area, flush toilets and shower building, sand volleyball court, picnic shelter. Electric only camp sites, grass sites only, no gravel or paved pads. Great place for group camping!! Very peaceful setting! Right across from Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch which offers tours and meat for purchase.
Update: my friend used the shower building and said the water pressure was good and the temperature stayed hot the whole time. She was really impressed.
