About Campground

Criss Cove County Park is a 45 acre recreation area that provides fishing, camping and hiking. Criss Cove is typical of Southern Iowa grassland habitat with many native Red Cedars scattered throughout the area. Criss Cove provides users with a high quality 9 acre pond fishery that allows easy access for both shore-line fishing as well as an access for non-motorized boat/canoe fishing. Access to the pond is open year round. Modern and primitive camp sites are provided through the spring, summer and fall each year.

Tent camping

$12 per night

Great people who care for it !!

Nice quiet area to enjoy camping, no matter what you camp in !!

Wildlife all around to see.

A shunk was playing with a bunny 2 days ago in the tent area, and was not bothered by me at all. A doe and fawn walk the area a couple times a day.

Just a Small Beautiful place and simple!!

Bathroom is 2 stalls with waste going down. No water in bathrooms. No showers, but there is water at electric sites. I made a tarp shower, and it worked perfectly.

I stayed during the week and weekend and it was the 4th of July in there also. Saw tons of fireworks right for my tent spot, from the road about a half mile away !!

Criss Cove is one of my favorite places. Nice camp ground and small lake. Good for paddling and kayak fishing. There are 4 nice jetties well maintained for shore fishing. The critter swimming is a beaver. The goose had 6 eggs she's sitting on. Wildlife is abundant in the area. Two owls flew over head after dusk and it's not uncommon to hear coyotes howling.

This is a great place for a hike. There are mowed trails around the 15-acre remnant prairie, one of the largest in Iowa. Or you can hike in the prairie. The Madison County conservation team does a great job of managing it.

It's beautiful here clean and quiet even with the highway right there we stopped because it had been years since I had been there and I can't believe how much work someone has done out here beautiful job, it's definitely a place I'd take my grandkids kids to go camping and fishing.
