Beware! This place is horrible! First, there is no access to the outside world. No cell phone service, no wifi, no OTA tv signal, no fm radio signal. I guess if you want to be totally off the grid this is the place for you. I just think they should warn you about this on their website. The pictures make it seem like you are "on" the river. While you can see the river, you can't get anywhere near it. There is overgrowth that keeps you well away from the shore. Second, the manager is awful. She is a mean old lady who is on a power trip. She pulled us over to scold us for going 7 in a 5 mph zone. She stated it was "because there are children around" but it was obvious that she just likes to use her tiny amount of power to feel like she's important in some way. If you doubt my assessment of my experience at this place, I invite you to give it a try. You will understand after you stay here. BTW I am writing this review from the nearby state park on what have should have been our last night at horseshoe bend. We just couldn't stand another night at horseshoe bend, even though it was prepaid.. We have all of the services here, it's cheaper, and people are friendlier.
When we called, we found out there was no Wi-Fi or Internet service, that was GREAT no pesty calls from our kids (ages 21 & 23). I was also told that check in is after 2PM & check out is before NOON, so RVs are not trying to pass on the narrow, hilly road down to the RV campground. I received a text message giving me directions, if I had relied on my GPS, I would have missed the left turn before the red barn. I asked the manager or owner & was directed to my site. I had a hard time backing into the site, it was my first time & I had no backup cameras, that mistake is corrected now! I got the Electric & Water connected & unhitched my vehicle. Then we checked in & went to eat @ the Overlook Restaurant, as suggested by our hosts. We came back & had a very peaceful sleep. We got up refreshed after our long trip, we took off early to Indiana Caverns & many other places. One morning there was a heard of deer passing by, as I was hooking up the wastewater drain. We had a fantastic, several days stay it was so quiet & relaxing. If I didn't have a doctor's appointment, I would have stayed longer. The morning I left, I got everything packed up, put my JEEP in 4-wheel drive high & pulled my toy-hauler slowly up the hill, I met no one on the way out.
Great views of the majestic Ohio river and it's close to great spots like Stephenson's General Store, but there's not really anything else except RV lots so if that's what you want then it's perfect still a beautiful scenery regardless
OMG! What a piece of heaven! If you want a place to really get away and decompress, THIS IS YOUR PLACE! The spaces are spacious and leveled! Having the Ohio River as your view is beautiful and the people who run it are kind, informative and helpful. We were checking in after dark and the lady texted us a place to park until the morning. It is not recommended to try to come after dark, the roads are narrow and steep. It is best to park at the Walmart and come the next day. If you need WiFi the Star-link works great! Otherwise, no internet available.
View of Ohio River from all sites! Great little floating dock next to boat ramp to watch barges and boaters go by. River not accessible from camp sites. Well maintained, clean campground with FHU, fairly level, trees for shade. Great stay! It is worth going the few miles off the highway, on the narrow, curvy road with a 12% grade. Thank you!
