We went a week ago.

WONDERFUL place! Just be careful driving RV/trailer with cross traffic in some narrow areas.

What a nightmare. My husband and I came up for the 4th of July, put our money in the envelope and in the box and set up camp. Not twenty minutes later the camp host shows up, after some light conversation the lady and Mr scantlebury check the box and come back to tell us the envelope isn't in there. We have our receipt and our proof of payment stub. We look around but tell them we put it in the box. They become irate and immediately write us a ticket. My husband asked to look through the envelopes incase he put the wrong date on or something but these guys denied us and didn't even ask for our name and started immediately writing a ticket. Of the 46 states I've camped in and as a resident of Utah I've never been straight up robbed by a camphost. Filing an official complaint today. Do not camp here!

We visited here for the first time just to hang out for the day. It is a very pretty area. Saw some deer on the way in, bucks still have thick velvet on. The road in from Mtn View is nice on the WY side, then a little rough on the UT side. Pretty narrow in most spots, but a decent road if your not in a hurry. The lake is very low, but still pretty deep to swim, kayak, & fish. Couldn't touch bottom with 6ft oars past about 20 ft out from shore. It's cold as expected, but not freezing. The only bad about our trip, was the wind. It blew the whole time we were there, & hard. Don't know if thats normal, but makes kayaking a little tough. The fishing was good, although I never broke out my fly rod due to the wind. We caught a few trout from 12-18 inches just on worms & others we talked to seemed to catch their limit too. The camp host was a very nuce guy, Michael. He is a bit leary of atv's & motorcycles. He has had quite a few just speed through the campground. We brought a couple dirt bikes & a tote goat. He was fine with us as long as we kept it slow through the campground. There are some nice riding trails around the area, just outside the campground, where we could turn it up & get dirty. We are planning to go back & stay for a couple days, instead of just a day trip.

We have camped here a couple of times and have enjoyed it more each time we go. Zero cellphone service, surrounded by trees, trails to walk, fishing (implanted grayling and trout) numbered camping spots, beautiful views where ever you look. Group camp spots, tent only spots, single spots and no over night camping spots available. There are bear caution signs posted, however we’ve never seen one. Just be aware and use your brain. The drive itself to the lake is absolutely gorgeous. We have seen big trucks and campers all the way to tiny 2 door cars travel the bumpy windy road, however it can be a little rough in some spots, just go slow and watch what you’re doing. We were in camp spot 24 this last time with our 27’ camper and truck and it was perfect.

Went back to Hoop Lake with my dad we had a great time caught a lot of fish trolling in our kayaks. This was the first time I have been back to Hoop Lake in almost 30 years moved back to Utah 2 years ago. We used to go there when I was a child and it will always be a special place to me. A lot has changed, but the fishing is still great like I remember as a child.
