Stayed two days. Beautiful views, quiet nights. Hiked around crater. lots to see.
So, so worth it. Absolutely beautiful view, I just wish we had more time to hike to the center of the crater!
AWD vehicle recommended especially in wetter weather, but I can see 2WD vehicles getting there with little problem if there's no mud. Roads are well maintained if you take the route uploaded!
Directions:
Enter at mile marker 22! This road is labeled NF-3125 in Google Maps. I don't recommend entering near the horse ranch unless you want to explore. Those roads are much less maintained but really beautiful.
Stay on this road til you come across a grey gravel road (017 Rd in Maps) and take a right. You'll basically drive parallel to the power lines until you reach NF-200, a dirt road with signs pointed back towards HWY 31. You should be able to see the crater's edge from here.
Hang a left, drive up NF-200, and enjoy the view!
