About Campground

Hatteras Island’s only campground located in the heart of Hatteras Village, in the scenic Outer Banks area of North Carolina.

Set among beautiful canals and grassy fields, our resort has over 60 paved RV sites. Hatteras Sands Campground welcomes “big rigs” with many sites featuring water, sewer and electric hookups, cable and WiFi.

On Hatteras Island, you can fish right from the beach or take a charter boat out to the deep blue water of the Gulf Stream. Take in the soulful coastal restaurants and interesting mom-and-pop shops. While your setting will be a bit more on the untamed side of nature, it will be a simpler and quieter part of the barrier islands.

Hatteras Sands Cottages offer comforts while providing a camping experience. For a truly unique accommodation, stay in one of our newly renovated cottages.

We had a great stay. We had booked a cottage for 2 nights but a few days before we decided to see if we could stay a third night. My husband emailed them and they immediately responded saying they had a cabin we could have for one night. They clearly state they do 2 night minimum in their website but they didn't enforce that with us for the cabin, and it was last minute.

We got there two hours early and they let us check in early for an additional $20. We stayed in cottage 4 and it was just as we expected. It was clean and quiet. They are having to update their septic system so there's a big pile of sand in front. No biggie. The bath house was clean as well. The last night we stayed in cabin 5. Since we had dogs, we asked if we could check in early and they said they'd clean our cabin first and give us a call as soon as it was ready and they did at noon! One hour after check out time. The cabin had a shower, toilet, and sink. Nothing fancy which is fine with us. It backed up to the canal which my husband loved because he could just walk out to fish.

The pool was nice and clean. We never used the laundry. It was perfect for 2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs to go to the beach, come back and clean up, grill dinner, and just relax. All of the other campers were so friendly. The employees/owner really did go above and beyond.

Great lil piece of paradise. Folks in Hatteras are amazingly kind. Jeffrey's is the spot for fresh, melt in your mouth fish- straight off the boat. Lee Robinson and the Red and White are your go to stables. Frisco Beach is the bomb. Enjoy!

Stayed in a cabin for a week. Was nice but definitely room for improvement. For one, the refrigerator was tiny. Going off pictures we thought there would be freezer space but there was not. We essentially had a "beer fridge" that someone would have in their garage. 2 other groups that also rented cabins had the same type of refrigerator. There is more then enough space for a larger refrigerator. There was also nowhere to store/hang clothes like a closet rod or any shelves. Definitely a lack of storage space if you're going to use the bunk beds. We stored a lot of stuff on the beds as we didn't use the bunks and the floor is the only other option. We used the pool one day and it was very nice. Was not a concern for us, but we noticed there really isn't much more to do for kids other than the pool though. Location is great if you want to be close to the ferry to Ocracoke. We used that twice during our stay. Also has good shopping nearby for any needs that arise. Staff was always super nice and helpful in addressing concerns. One of our groups cabin lost power and it was quickly restored. My cabin lost power due to a tripped breaker and that too was quickly restored. Overall it fit our need for the trip, I do feel it was a little pricey for the cabin and probably wouldn't stay again because of that.

This place is one of my favorite campgrounds to stay at. The difference between cottages and cabins is that cabins have bathrooms. The bath house has bathrooms that are really nice and clean. The staff is really nice and I love the price because the beds are comfortable especially for a cabin at a campground. All the people who stay here have class too and you don't have to worry about some screaming drunk person outside. Very peaceful and nice place. Less than 100 yards from the hatteras marina to get on a boat and fish.

We stayed at Hatteras Sands campground with our RV. The sites had oversized concrete pads, nice picnic tables and a very clean shower and bathroom area located in the middle of the camp ground. The pool was clean. The workers were very pleasant and accommodating. We had some issues with minor things that were taken care of promptly. The laundry facility was close to the pool so that you could do laundry and wait for you laundry to be finished by relaxing at the pool. The staff there were very friendly and personable. I would highly recommend this camp ground to friends and family. I will definitely be back to visit this area.
