Located along the banks of Rock Creek and far from civilization in North Georgia mountains. This recreation area offers camping and trout fishing. This area is well known for its trout fishing and is located just upstream from the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery. Frank Gross Recreation Area Handout with maps and more information. From Blue Ridge, GA take US 515 north for 4 miles to GA Hwy. 60; turn right and go 2 miles to Morganton. In Morganton, turn right on GA 60 south for 14.5 miles. Turn right on Forest Service Road 69 (Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery Road) for 5.2 miles to campground.
This park is a beautiful ride up the mountain. There are several places to pull off and fish or have a picnic.
The camp site was very clean and well maintained. The restroom was surprisingly clean and pretty much scent free with there being a pit toilet. I highly recommend camping here as there is a beautiful small stream nearby and a large pond just a short walk up the road. I honestly don't remember how much the fee was but it was very cheap.
Awesome spot, very well kept and lots of trout. Gets full fast so get there early and respect yer neighbors. No cell signal at the actual camp site but if your drive about 10 minutes back down towards where the Benton mackaye trail crosses the gravel road you’ll get some bars. Easy drive to deep hole camp ground if all sites are occupied.
Very well maintained!! No litter so campers and Staff are doing a great job!ow water in Rock Creek as everywhere else now. Still, top shelf experience! Has toilet, and 4 bucks a night with Access Pass otherwise 8.
Campgrounds #6 and #7 technically don’t say “creekside” but they are right on the river and are just as great as any of the other sites. #6 is my favorite. Caught almost a dozen small wild rainbows on a dry fly right by the campsite, There are definitely larger stocked trout in these waters too. Overall just a fantastic campground for fishing and hanging out.
