This place is really fun but they close the park at 5pm… we used to be able to come and go as we pleased 20 years ago. But that has all changed now. Not as much fun
Second year staying here but it will be our last. We didn’t have issues the first year but this year was different. You have to pay for your campsite and pay for your raft which is expected. What isn’t expected is also paying $15 per night per person which adds up quick when you’re a family with kids. The staff (the only one there was) doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing when handling reservations. It took forever to get checked in. When we went back later to the office for ice, the staff on duty was on the phone dealing with other reservations and still seemed completely lost. So we left and went up the street to buy ice. The RV campsites are nice because they’re completely tree covered. However the bath house is the most disgusting bath house I have ever seen. It needs completely torn down and remodeled. Our raft was falling apart, missing handles, missing the fabric you sit on, etc. This place is money hungry for the lack of what they have to offer.
Replying to the owners comment: My party “Rhodes” didn’t even speak to your staff when we came to get ice because she was too busy on the phone. So we left and got ice elsewhere as I said. The only time my party spoke to someone there was at check-in where we paid and walked away. We didn’t speak to anyone again during our trip. Maybe you should get your parties straight before accusing them of “yelling and cutting in line” because that wasn’t us. You seem to have an issue with getting parties mixed up.
I really loved this campground. We had a bit of an issue with timing with the canoe trip but that was due to some miscommunication caused by weather uncertainty. This place is nestled in a beautiful location along the Elk River. Having the river behind my tent was dreamy. Plenty of beaches to swim if not floating. The place is clean and relatively quiet at night for a weekend. Very family oriented. Bathrooms are clean, and just what you expect in a camp. Hot water for a nice shower available. Outside sink for washing other things. I was tent camping, but there was plenty of RV space from what I could see. I'm planning on going back. This place is great even if you're not planning on canoeing. But if you are... they even pick you up at your camp site area! How great is that!!
We stayed for three nights. The camp sites are clean. The bathhouse is less than desirable.. I'd rather "go" in the woods. Thankfully, I have my own bathroom in my camper.
There are no amenities such as laundry or playground areas. Just basic campsites. Most of the sites are pretty close together.
Checkout is 10 a.m. .most places we've camped checkout is 11.
They sell ice at the office, but it really high. Be sure to grab your ice before you come!
We celebrated our cousin's birthday by hanging out at the river most of the day. It was truly an all day "party".
I would NOT recommend this spot for kids. Most everyone was drinking. The smell of pot was frequent. Not judging.. just being honest.
There was also the showing of breasts for beads. No biggie to me. Just a heads up if you are bringing children.
