Located in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, this free primitive campground is in the San Ysidro Mountains west of Borrego Springs. It's 3,375 feet above sea level.
Great area, fun little spot to set up for a few nights. Only giving 4 stars because the bathrooms wouldn't lock, and it was creepy to not know if someone would walk in on you in the middle of the night (especially as a woman) but it was a beautiful area. Some spots had fire pits. A lot of cholla cactus around, so keep in mind if bringing pets if they're not used to cactus if they're off leash.
Gorgeous location, with nice trails and decent pit toilets. HOWEVER, because this campground doesn’t require reservations, it attracts party crowds on Saturday nights. We had a lovely site set up on Saturday afternoon, then at 7:30 pm cars started pouring in to the site next to us. They continued to arrive until 10 pm, when there were 12 cars in total. They were loud and obnoxious well into the night, making us miserable. Avoid this place on weekends. We will only camp here in weekdays in the future.
We love this site. Fire rings and pit toilets. Bring your own everything else and make sure you bring plenty of water.
Well marked trails that lead to spectacular views. A rest room and clean useable camp spaces. The area is a giant granite stone garden loaded with plants and animals. Spend a day or a day and night.
Had a great 2 nights Veterans weekend Thursday Friday. Super quiet Thursday and not that much louder Friday. Everyone respected quiet time. I'll be back. Just as fun as Rainbow Basin. Redneck Lasagna hit the spot.
