Fantastic primitive campground near the entrance to Anza Borrego. Wide open spaces with plenty of spots to set up camp, beautiful views, drastic sunrises and sunsets. The icing on the cake -- the inky night sky. There is NO better place in the area to view the stars than Blair Valley. The "campground" has pit toilets which are usually clean as well which is great for those who aren't ready to squat. There are many nice dirt roads and trails to explore. Check out the Pictographs trail nearby.

If you're coming from San Diego/LA, you drive past Julian. That's a great place to stock up on supplies and get gas. There's also a few stops along the way in Agua Caliente. Bonus -- there's decent cell reception in the area.

Lastly, getting here is pretty easy. I've done it in a slammed RWD sedan and made it through fine. Now I've got a 4x4 and of course, that's what you *should* use.

Love this place!!! We only gave it a four because on the weekends it's super packed for a campground but technically it's a 4.9 in my book. They do have one set of bathrooms but if your not scared of nature use a hole! There are plenty of good spots to choose from and this place is BIG! Were in the mountain area but there's a flatter area right beyond the turn in point for this campground. We have stayed here on and off for a month now enjoying the weekends but I definitely suggest weekdays since there are more spaces to choose from in the front area by the restrooms especially if you have a little one and a tent and not a nice camper.

Really nice area, lot of places to camp and explore. Busy weekends, weekdays are usually quiet, can hear road noise depending on where you stay. Pretty much every plant there is anza borrego area. Good trails to hike and things to find.

I came with my camper van during the weekdays in Jan. and it was practically deserted. Not much to do but chill and do some hiking. Very dark skies and quiet except for planes overhead. The weather was good except for 1 windy day.
