About Campground

Cullasaja Gorge is located along 64 between Franklin and Highlands, NC. The gorge is 7.5 miles of the Mountain Scenic By-way. This narrow, winding road parallels the Cullasaja River and offers spectacular views of the mountains and the river which boasts several waterfalls and many fishing opportunities. Walk or drive (weather pending) under the "veil" of water falling 120 feet at Bridal Veil Falls, just 1.2 miles west of Highlands. Dry Falls is a magnificent 75-foot waterfall with a beautiful view of the river. From the parking area, a short trail leads you right behind the waterfall. An accessible walkway provides a view of the waterfall from the parking area. Be cautious as the trail may be wet or icy causing a very slippery surface. Other falls along the way include Quarry Falls and Cullasaja Falls.

Directions

From Franklin take US 64E/28S towards Highlands. The Cullasaja gorge is 7.5 section between Franklin and Highlands. From Highlands floow 64W/28N to Franklin.

Amazing Falls right off the road! Not to be missed when you are on this road. Absolutely breathtaking. Very small parking that’s easy to miss, so be looking. Maybe enough room for 3 cars max. One of my absolute favorites.

Probably my favorite carolina waterfall. Gorgeous massive cascades and lush green moss, feels like a fairy land. The hike to the bottom isn't easy, it's short and strenuous. Definitely loose rock and boulder scrambling, climb with caution! But if anyone wants some amazing photos at any of the falls, HMU πŸ€™

The pictures don't do this beautiful waterfall justice. Very majestic. You view it from straight across, almost level. If you are afraid of heights just sit on the large rock on the top of the viewing area. There is a trail down that my husband took (moderate difficulty). We went on a weekday (Tuesday). Only 4-5 parking spots prior to the falls, wouldn't go on a weekend.

Beautiful waterfall! It is on the side of a very tight road going up the mountain. Usually the fall is gushing with water (1 pic I took in year 2020). Today it was flowing a bit lighter and made for a beautiful experience. Opened up the view of the rocks, twists and turns usually hidden. Not many places to pull over on a pretty day due to all the traffic.
